Wide Bay teams performed strongly at the Queensland Junior Cricket Championships played in Brisbane before Christmas with four teams finishing in the top six.
The 2012 State Championships were played across six rounds at Brisbane Grammar School’s Northgate grounds from December 17-21.
In the U16s, Wide Bay emerged victorious with four South Burnett juniors as part of the squad: Sam Dennien, Simon Fairbairn, Lane Ferling and Stuart Robinson.

- Round 1 – Wide Bay v South-East Queensland (loss)
- Round 2 – Wide Bay v Far North (win)
- Round 3 – Wide Bay v Central Queensland (win)
- Round 4 – Wide Bay v Metropolitan South West (win)
- Round 5 – Wide Bay v North Queensland (win)
- Round 6 – Wide Bay v Sunshine Coast (win)

Murgon’s Jared Sippel also had a good carnival at the Queensland Junior Cricket Championships.
Playing for Wide Bay in the U13s, Sippel scored an impressive 98 (N/O retired) to help Wide Bay to score first innings points against Central Queensland in their Round 1 match.
Sippel also took 4/9 off 10 overs in Round 4 against North Queensland
The U13s Wide Bay squad finished second on the ladder, narrowly defeated by Darling Downs and South West Queensland.

In the U14s, Wide Bay finished fourth on the ladder, recording victories over Far North, Central Queensland, Sunshine Coast and North Queensland.
Local juniors Kane Brunjes, Mitchell Bunker, Callum Cook and Caylan Brown all performed well for Wide Bay.

Wide Bay finished fifth in the U12s and ninth in the U15s.
Overall in the Club Championship, Wide Bay finished fifth with 164.77 points, behind Brisbane North (188.47), Darling Downs & South-West Queensland (172.59), Bears (172.22) and Gold Coast (164.77).
There were 12 clubs competing in the championships.
