Wondai’s traditional Christmas Eve carnival was full of festive spirit on Monday evening with Coronation Park packed to overflowing.
Even the Wondai Town Band couldn’t squeeze in … they entertained the crowd from the balcony of the nearby Cecil Hotel.
The festival is a major fundraiser for the Wondai Agricultural, Pastoral and Industrial Society (better known as the Wondai Show Society).
It was also the culmination of a big pre-Christmas Wondai Dollars shopping promotion organised by the local Chamber of Commerce.
In the lead-up to Christmas Eve, shoppers who spent $10 at participating Wondai stores were given tickets in a $4000 Christmas prize draw.
A number of prizes were pre-drawn, but at 6:00pm the draw for the major $2000 prize ($1000 in Wondai Dollars and $1000 in vouchers) took place. The catch? You had to be there and claim it within 60 seconds to be the winner!
Fortunately for Marion Wilkinson, of Wondai, she was there when her name came up and and Wondai Chamber of Commerce secretary Wayne Bond presented her with her prize.
Second prize of $700 was won by Chris Field, and third prize, $300, by Nicole Hinkley.
There were also 10 x $100 prizes (vouchers and/or Wondai Dollars). One of these winners was Chris Kennedy, from Wondai Hardware, who promptly donated his prize to the Wondai Kindergarten.
