Southern Queensland Country Tourism is warning tourist operators to beware of a scam that is targeting local businesses.

A spokesman said some operators have contacted the regional tourism organisation recently regarding invoices received for “Annual Website Listing on Tourism Queensland for 12-month subscription”.

“Please be aware Tourism Queensland or the new Tourism and Events Queensland or Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW) are not currently invoicing operators for website listings,” the spokesman said.

“We would strongly advise against paying any requested fees from companies you are unfamiliar with.

“If you have any questions and would like to discuss this with Tourism and Events Queensland, please contact 1800-629-749.

“The ATDW renewal campaign will run from March 2013.

“Concerned operators can also contact the Department of Fair Trading.”
