Tabah Albert’s education was given a boost when her dad Eddie entered the classroom as a mentor.

Mr Alberts sat with Tabah and her Year 5-6-7 classmates at Cherbourg State School to help them with their work.

“I tried to help other children with their work but they thought I was grumpy,” the school’s Parent of the Month for November-December said with a laugh.

“It was a bit of a challenge but I enjoyed it. It was rewarding.”

Principal Peter Sansby said the mentoring Mr Alberts and others from the community did with his students had made a huge difference to the school.

“Parents were able to see what went on in the classrooms, understand the value of education and the efforts of the teachers a lot more,” Mr Sansby said.

Mr Alberts often suggests to other parents they should have a go at mentoring and he now spends five days a week doing it.

“Their children won’t play up in class when they’re with them,” he said.

“If I can get a (Parent of the Month) certificate for spending my time with them, then anybody can do it.”

Tabah said she loved having her dad help her in the class and at home.

“It’s just nice having him around,” she said.
