The quality of Kingaroy water will receive a much-needed boost following the announcement today of $680,000 funding by the State Government.
The South Burnett Regional Council has received the funding from the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program to install a dissolved air flotation device at the Gordonbrook Water Treatment Plant.
Local Government Minister David Crisafulli said the project would serve the community for years to come.
“(It) will upgrade the water quality for Kingaroy and surrounds and improve the reliability of the plant,” Mr Crisafulli said.
Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said water quality had been an ongoing issue that the previous Labor Government had refused to address.
“I have been fighting for this funding since we came to government in March,” she said.
“Kingaroy’s town water supply is often undrinkable and these funds will deliver much-needed infrastructure upgrades.
“I’m proud to be part of a government that invests in regional communities.”
UPDATE November 23, 2012:
South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann welcomed news of the $680,000 grant today.
“This grant will cover about 28 per cent of the cost of this $2.38 million project, and we appreciate the State Government’s assistance.”
