The South Burnett Regional Council has announced it will spend $1.17 million to widen three local roads … but road users may have to wait as long as 18 months for the work to be completed.
At its monthly meeting today, SBRC Roads Portfolio chairperson Cr Damien Tessmann said three roads had been earmarked as Roads To Recovery projects for the 2013-14 fiscal year.
The roads to be upgraded are:
- Stuart Valley Drive, Haly Creek – $300,000
A collector road that serves the Haly Street and Ellesmere localities and is also a bus route. The upgrade will convert the 3.6m section to a 6.5m.
- Wattle Camp Road, Nanango – $400,000
A collector road that serves the Wattle Camp locality and is also a bus route. The upgrade will convert the 3.6m section to 6.5m, as well as upgrade drainage.
- Franks Road, Taromeo – $474,000
A collector road that serves the Taromeo locality and is also a bus route. The upgrade will convert the 3.6m wide road to a 6.5m through to the Old Esk Road intersection.
Cr Tessmann said that Roads To Recovery was a fully funded Federal Government program that assists local governments with the management of infrastructure in their region.
He was very pleased to announce the three roads as projects for the coming fiscal year.
“Traffic along all three roads had increased to the point where the existing dirt shoulders are being pulverised, and widening the sealed area of each road will extend pavement life as well as reduce the costs of repairing shoulder degradation.”
Division 2 Cr Debra Palmer said that while she couldn’t speak for users of either Stuart Valley Drive or Wattle Camp Road, she was “absolutely delighted” to hear about the Franks Road upgrade and was sure all Franks Road users would share her feelings.
