A newspaper report at the weekend that lists Kingaroy State High School as being “over capacity” also has buried in the same report a statement that the school has “sufficient capacity to meet student enrolment”.

The Sunday Mail listed 40 schools that it stated were “over capacity” when their enrolments were assessed on Day 8 of the 2012 school year.

It listed Kingaroy State High School at 101 per cent capacity (11 excess students).

The newspaper accompanied the report with a photograph of students crammed into a sardine can.

However in an attached Excel spreadsheet – which readers had to take the trouble to download, and then have the correct software to open – it states that Kingaroy State High School has “sufficient capacity to meet student enrolment. School utilises facilities provision in a flexible manner to meet enrolment number. Additional accommodation approved for the start of the 2013 school year”.
