Cherbourg schoolchildren and their parents took the opportunity today to remember last year’s floods – and think about how the town could prepare if another disaster loomed.
They gathered on Jack O’Chin Oval for “Get Ready Cherbourg Day”.
It’s hard to believe that during the 2011 floods, water was lapping the grandstand on the oval.
The children had an opportunity to learn about all the different emergency services.
There were also fun activities which also had a serious side … such as learning how to fill sand bags.
The Ration Shed Museum prepared a display a photographs taken during the floods which brought back many not-so-pleasant memories.
