A protest meeting organised by the Queensland Nurses Union in Brisbane today has been told Kingaroy’s Farrhome aged care facility has been earmarked for closure by the State Government.

The meeting – to launch a campaign to “Save Eventide”, a nursing home at Brighton – was told the Nurses Union feared for the future of all 21 State Government aged care facilities across Queensland.

However, Union Secretary Beth Mohle told the meeting the union had confirmed Farrhome would be shut in June 2014.

Ms Mohle said the Nurses Union planned to confront Premier Campbell Newman and other State Ministers about the closures when they were in Kingaroy on Tuesday for a Cabinet meeting.

The union said a total of about 30 residents and high-care places, and 30 nurses, could be displaced if Farrhome closes.
