In the pink … Commonwealth Bank employees Sue Musch and Cherie Dioth
Riders arrive at the Kingaroy Commonwealth Bank branch

The Commonwealth Bank branch in Kingaroy became a sea of pink on Friday as employees joined in the fight against cancer.

Not only were the bank’s staff dressed in pink (or wearing pink ribbons),  the branch was also decorated with pink balloons and ribbons.

Pink cupcakes and copies of the Australian Women’s Health Diary were being sold to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Institute of Australia.

Later in the afternoon, the branch also welcomed into town the Tour de Cure riders who are also raising funds for cancer research.

The nine full-time riders, accompanied by seven guest riders and six support staff, had ridden in from Dalby on the second last leg of their journey from Ipswich to Montville.

Rider Jodie Harris – the only woman on the tour who is riding the full distance – said the team had ridden more than 140km on Friday. They faced another 190km on Saturday before they reached the finishing line.

The riders are raising funds for cancer research, support and prevention projects and try to share a cancer awareness message with every community they visit.

“We are all very passionate about what we’re doing,” Jodie said.
