Hot temperatures and windy conditions have helped fan several grass fires around the South Burnett in the past 24 hours.
Urban brigades were called to protect properties at Charlestown, near Wondai, this afternoon when a fire burning on Bessons Road and the Old Wondai Road encroached near houses.
Smoke from this blaze, and nearby fires at Tingoora and Chelmsford, hung about the Wondai area for most of the afternoon.
An Emergency Services spokesman said firefighters were called to the Charlestown blaze at 1:10pm.
At the height of the incident 13 rural crews and three urban crews were in attendance. At one stage the blaze is believed to have entered the Wondai Forestry area.
At 6:00pm, nine crews were still in attendance although the fire was now burning safely along containment lines put in place by a bulldozer.
Firefighters are expected to be on site overnight.
This morning, grass fires were also reported on the Tingoora-Chelmsford Road at Tingoora, the Durong-Mundubbera Road at Brovinia; and Cousens Road in Chelmsford.
Emergency Services said none of these fires posed a threat to properties.
Yesterday afternoon at 2:15pm, nine fire crews were called to a large fire near the Burnett Highway in Moffatdale.
Emergency Services said a homestead was located close to the fire but was not under threat. The fire was largely contained by 6:30pm when most crews departed, leaving on-going monitoring to the Tablelands Rural Fire Brigade.
Another blaze yesterday, in difficult terrain at Din Din Road near Yarraman, was extinguished by rural brigades from Brooklands, East Nanango, South Nanango, Booie Rise, Taromeo and Sandy Ridges.
