Aspiring South Burnett model Madison Kilgour has won a place in this year’s Miss Country Girl Australia modelling pageant and will now go on to represent the region at the national finals in Sydney.

Madison was selected as one of two “wildcard winners” on Saturday morning when the quest’s regional finals were held at Kingaroy Shoppingworld.

A crowd of almost 200 shoppers watched 29 senior entrants and 13 junior entrants tread the catwalk in front of three judges – first solo, then in pairs – before the winners in both sections were announced.

Paige Connell from Gympie was chosen as the winner in the senior section, for women aged 13 to 28, while Madison, from Kingaroy, and Bree Walker, from Hervey Bay, were selected as “wildcard winners” who will also be eligible to compete at the competition’s finals in Sydney in February 2013.

Quest director Katie Jones was at pains to point out that “wildcards” had as much chance of winning the grand final as heat finalists.

In fact, she said, last year’s Miss Country Girl Australia winner, Belinda Adams, from Bendigo, was a wildcard winner in her own regional heats.

The four-year-old pageant is the only national model search quest that specialises in women living in rural and regional areas of Australia.

A total of 42 entrants took part in the Miss Country Girl Australia regional finals at Kingaroy Shoppingworld on Saturday morning
