Gold Coast Suns Aussie Rules player Alik Magin joined local footballers for a “kick around” at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy on Sunday afternoon.

Alik has Australian Rules in his blood … his father Bill is a member of AFL Queensland’s Hall of Fame and his brother Rhys played at Essendon.

He came up to Kingaroy as part of a promotion organised by the new South Burnett Saints AFL Club for the upcoming AFL 9s competition.

Club president Daniel Clacy said about 25 senior players as well as junior players had shown interest in playing in the mini-competition.

AFL 9s is a nine-a-side non-contact game which features mixed sides of men and women – and children aged 13 and over. It is suitable for players of all abilities.

The season will start on Tuesday, October 23, and will be played on Tuesday evenings from 6:00pm until December 11 at Lyle Vidler Oval.

The first night will be a free “Come and Try” session for people to try out the game.
