Young Murgon rugby league player Karl Berlin was named “Best on Day” after the South Burnett put on a strong performance in the Broncos Cup Challenge on Saturday.

Some of the South Burnett’s most promising U13/U14s rugby league players had the opportunity to get more representative experience during the challenge, which was played in Brisbane.

The competition is part of the South Burnett Junior Rugby League’s linkage with Broncos affiliate club Norths Devils.

Nineteen boys were selected for the South Burnett’s Young Eagles squad.

The teams in the challenge played in two groups.

In their group, Pool A, the South Burnett won two games (against Carina and Greenbank) and played a hard-fought draw against the Aspley Devils.

They met the winner of Pool B, West Michelton, in the grand final.

South Burnett JRL secretary Lisa Weir said the boys played well during hot and dry conditions, but were defeated 4 tries to 2.
