Kingaroy police are worried that tradesman and DIYers could be making it easy for criminals.

They have 10 helpful tips to help ensure construction and work sites remain safe from thefts and vandalism.

1. Clearly identify your building site with your name and contact numbers.

2. Introduce yourself to the neighbours – let them know your regular working hours.

3. Ask your neighbours to immediately report anything suspicious to police or Crime Stoppers 1800-333-000.

4. Mark your tools and equipment and ensure that your tools are packed away when you finish for the day.

5. Remove keys from vehicles. Always secure vehicles and machinery when not in use.

6. Ensure deliveries occur on the day they are needed on site.

7. Remove empty packaging from the site.

8. Consider lighting and security patrols on long-term building sites.

9. Limit access to site with fencing if practicable.

10. Secure the building at lock-up stage and monitor worker / sub-contractor access to site keys.
