The BP Dam Family Fishing Classic made a welcome return after an absence of six years at the weekend, attracting 220 entries and a full house at Yallakool Tourist Park.
Low water levels at the Dam had prevented the competition being held since 2006, but the situation had since returned to normal.
The Classic started at 10:00am on Saturday and concluded at the same time on Sunday.
It offered numerous prizes in a range of categories: Heaviest Yellowbelly, Bass, Silver and Jewfish for both senior and junior anglers.
The prizes were handed out after the official weigh-in on Sunday morning by jovial emcee (and former Yallakool Tourist Park manager) Allan Walters, who’d made the trip from his new home in Narrabri to supervise the ceremony and renew his many old friendships in the region.
The competition was run by the Bjelke-Petersen Dam Fish Management Committee.
After the success of this year’s event, they now plan to run the Family Fishing Classic annually each October long weekend.
