The South Burnett Regional Council advised today that Gordonbrook Dam has been temporarily closed again due to high levels of blue-green algae.
The closure took effect on Wednesday.
A Council spokesman said there are many different types of blue-green algae and Gordonbrook Dam sometimes experiences very high levels of the different types.
These levels vary throughout the year and it is necessary to close the dam (water area) for public access and recreation when testing of algae indicates high levels.
But residents should not be concerned about the quality of their drinking water, the SBRC says, because the Council’s treatment processes filters the water before it reaches consumers.
