An overhaul of Unit 1 at Tarong Power Station – due to begin on October 5 – will inject more than $1 million into the local economy.
Tarong Power Station Site Manager Dennis Franklin said more than 300 contract personnel in addition to permanent staff at Tarong Power Station would be employed during the 55-day outage.
“Overhauls of this size require skilled technicians and trades people of the highest standard,” Mr Franklin said.
“Specialist contractors from out of town will require accommodation in the area, while local businesses will also benefit from additional work.”
Mr Franklin said teamwork and communication would be essential in ensuring that the overhaul was run safely and cost effectively.
“As with everything that we do, we have a safety goal of Zero Harm for this outage,” Mr Franklin said.
The major overhaul is a significant component of the ongoing maintenance program by Stanwell to ensure the delivery of a reliable electricity supply for Queensland.
“By undertaking overhauls regularly and ensuring units are fully functional, Stanwell is ensuring that it remains a reliable electricity generator for Queensland,” Mr Franklin said.
