Kingaroy police are urging local residents planning holidays not to forget the basics even when on vacation.

Don’t make it easy for criminals to ruin you holiday.

Here’s some helpful tips to help ensure your personal and property safety:

  • Remember your resort or accommodation name, location and telephone number
  • Ensure your unit/room door is locked when sleeping or away including sliding glass doors on balconies
  • Do not leave items of value in view in your unit
  • Do not leave any valuable items unattended on beaches or in public places e.g. cameras, backpacks, phones etc
  • Be aware of your surroundings especially when using ATMs
  • Avoid carrying large amounts of cash
  • Plan your night before you go out – use courtesy buses, taxis or travel in a group, especially if consuming alcohol
  • Choose the safest route out at night – shortest is not necessarily safest
  • Maintain contact with family and friends when you are away for an extended period

Free copies of a Tourist Safety brochure are available at Kingaroy Police Station.
