To help celebrate Book Week, Prep to Year 7 students and staff at Saint Mary’s Catholic College came to school dressed as their favourite book characters.

The Maryknoll Centre was filled with a sea of colourful costumes and smiling faces.

Among the dress-ups were Harry Potter, Mary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland, Wally, Red Riding Hood and a full range of princesses and superheroes.

Students were given a bookmark to commemorate the occasion.

They then gathered on the oval for a mass reading event where younger students buddied up with older students to share their favourite books.

Other events during the week included a variety of lunchtime activities and daily guest readers.

Each class worked on a big display for the library using shortlisted books as their focus. The Year 6s created book trailers on each of the shortlisted books instead of a conventional display.

The celebration ended with a Campfire Stories night where staff, students and parents came dressed in their pyjamas and listened to a range of stories from different storytellers.

Students and teachers huddled around an open fire to listen to stories
