Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington is urging South Burnett residents to celebrate Disability Action Week (September 9-15) to highlight the contribution people with a disability make to the community.

She said the theme this year was “Empower, Enable, Everybody”, which highlights the importance of everyone working together to make Queensland communities as inclusive as possible.

“All Queenslanders have the right to be genuinely included in our community and to live the life they choose,” Ms Frecklington said.

Disability Services Minister Tracy Davis, who visited the South Burnett in late August said the week presents the opportunity to create a better understanding and acceptance of people of all abilities.

Mrs Frecklington singled out one of her loyal volunteers, Beryl Virgo, for special mention.

Beryl is a strong advocate for people with a disability.

“Beryl is well-known around Kingaroy and she volunteers her time in my office to help with administrative tasks. She’s always keen to keep me up-to-date with issues affecting people in my community who live with a disabilty, and I’d like to thank Beryl for all her hard work and for being so passionate about helping others,” Mrs Frecklington said.
