Many Bigpond customers in the South Burnett have been unable to access email for most of today after the carrier suffered a nationwide outage.

The outage began at approximately 9:30am this morning.

At 4:30pm this afternoon, a Telstra spokesman said the company was aware of the problem and the company’s technicians were trying to resolve it.

However, the spokesman was unable to say what the cause of the problem was or how long it would take to fix.

UPDATE 9:30pm:

Telstra reported at 6:00pm today that BigPond email services had been restored.

Because of the nationwide extent of the outage, however, it may take until tomorrow to fully clear the backlog of emails in the system.
