Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington with Local Government Minister David Crisafulli in Yarraman today

Local Government Minister David Crisafulli stopped off from a tour of the South Burnett today to visit Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington’s “mobile office” while it was in Yarraman.

“It was fantastic that the Minister for Local Government could talk with me today about some key Local Government issues which affect the Nanango Electorate,” Mrs Frecklington said.

“Minister Crisafulli is very aware of key concerns, such as Yarraman being within the Toowoomba Regional Council, and also the de-amalgamation proposal being drafted by residents of the previous Rosalie and Crows Nest Shire,” she said.

“I know Minister Crisafulli enjoyed his visit to both Cherbourg and South Burnett Regional Councils and has taken back an appreciation of the regional Councils within the Nanango Electorate and the positive work we are doing here,” she said.

Yarraman residents hopeful of breaking away from Toowoomba to either merge with Crows Nest or the South Burnett would be discouraged by recent statements by Mr Crisafulli.

Speaking on ABC Radio on July 23, he said councils had one of two clear choices in regards to de-amalgamation: revert to the old council boundaries or stay “as is”.

“If an individual shire wishes to breakaway, that clearly fits the guidelines, but we are not talking about putting together new local government areas.”
