Four South Burnett high schools – Murgon, Nanango, St Mary’s Catholic College and Kingaroy – are working together to stage a Careers Market in the Kingaroy State High School Indoor Sports Centre on August 2.

The Careers Market – which is expected to attract more than 1000 students – will run from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

The aims of the market are:

  • To provide businesses with the opportunity to showcase their industries to young people
  • To provide universities, TAFE and private education providers with the opportunities to promote their courses and pathways
  • To give young people and their parents the opportunity to find out the requirements of various occupations, including training requirements and what a typical day at work involves
  • To give young people and their parents the opportunity to discuss tertiary courses and accommodation and university life personally with university representatives
  • To help the trades and professions ensure a long-term supply of skilled labour for their industries
  • To highlight the wide range of occupations and training available to all South Burnett students
  • To provide students with an opportunity to try out various trade skills using real workshop equipment

The organisers are planning co-ordinated displays where similar businesses would be  grouped together and are encouraging employers to design interactive displays and activities.

Employers who are interested in taking part should contact Jodi Woodall at Kingaroy State High School on (07) 4160-0683.
