V8 Supercar driver Craig Lowndes is almost becoming a regular fixture in the South Burnett …
He was up here at the beginning of last month for the Ford v Holden Day at Cooyar, and he was in Kingaroy again on Saturday.
But this time the celebration was that extra little bit special; it’s not every day that a local business celebrates its 35th anniversary.
Kingaroy businessman Hunter Ploetz and his wife Myrtle purchased a tyre shop in Kingaroy in 1977.
This shop – and another in Nanango – were part of the Star Tyre chain.
The stores are now part of the Tyrepower chain, and are owned by Hunter and Myrtle’s children, Peter Ploetz and Lisa McCarthy.
Lowndes, who is sponsored by Tyrepower, was brought to Kingaroy to help the Ploetz family celebrate.
And from the queue winding out of the store on Saturday morning patiently waiting for photos, it was a good choice!
