The hopes of the South Burnett will be resting on these young shoulders at the Wide Bay 47th Battalion Rugby League competition being played in Murgon this weekend.

It has been many years since the South Burnett has hosted a 47th Battalion competition and local league fans are looking forward to a great weekend of U15 matches.

“Many of these young players are on the verge of being picked for bigger teams, even NRL teams,” Murgon junior rugby league club secretary Alicia Pidgeon said.

“There will be a lot of talented players going around.”

The U15 championship features teams from throughout the Wide Bay, including Bundaberg and the Fraser and Sunshine Coasts.

Coach Greg Pearce said unfortunately some South Burnett players had been unavailable for selection through injury and school commitments so getting the Junior Eagles squad together had been delayed.

This meant the team would only have only one full training run ahead of the competition but the players were looking forward to the weekend.
