Carer
The South Burnett now has a support group for carers

June 14, 2012

A recently formed group which offers companionship and support for carers will meet again in Murgon and Kingaroy next week.

The Care For Carers program is run by Steps Group Australia’s Bundaberg office.

In January this year, Group Facilitator Beth Boorer recognised that while many carers on the coast had benefitted from programs run in those areas, the South Burnett had very little in the way of support networks for people caring for friends or relatives.

So she began running a regular monthly meeting in Kingaroy, and soon afterwards added a second one in Murgon.

Meetings are open to carers of all ages and backgrounds, who get together for coffee and to share information about the highs and lows of caring for someone due to age, disability or mental illness.

One-on-one counselling is also available for carers who may be having difficulty coping with their role.

Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at Kingaroy RSL’s Tobruk Room from 10:30am to 12:30pm; and at Murgon Community Care and Respite at 50 Taylor Street West in Murgon from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.

You can obtain more information about the Care For Carers program on their website or by phoning Beth Boorer on (07) 4150-1900.
