Kingaroy’s on-again off-again community garden in Pound Street is about to have another attempt to kick start it into life with an Open Day aimed at establishing a Kingaroy Community Garden Group to run the venue.

Council officer Kerry Oldfield, who is co-ordinating the Healthy Communities Initiative, has organised the Open Day and working bee to gather interest in the project.

The Open Day will be held on Saturday, June 23, from 9:00am to 11:00am.

Kerry has a database of names of people who have indicated they would like to be involved in a community garden, and she will be inviting them to come along.

The Open Day is also for anyone in the local community who would like to become involved.

Kerry said she wants the volunteers to feel an “ownership” of the project by having a say on what direction the garden should take.

The Open Day will include an opportunity to taste some delicious – and healthy – recipes as part of a Grow Cook Eat workshop, including tzatiki and baba ghanoush.

Participants will also make paper pots with seasonal seedlings to plant at home.
