Impressive 16-year-old Kingaroy fast bowler Holly Ferling has made history by becoming the first woman to win the Ken Mackay Trophy for Queensland Junior Cricketer of the Year.
Presented annually at the Queensland Premier Grade Cricket Awards Night, the long-running trophy has been won by the likes of Bulls greats Martin Love and Stuart Law in the past.
Ferling represented Wide Bay at the prestigious State Under 16 boys championships just before Christmas and grabbed nine wickets at an average of 10.89.
She then collected eight wickets at 11.63 for Queensland at the national Under 18 girls championships and gained selection in the Australian Under 21 women’s side that toured New Zealand last month. Ferling shone in two of the four games that she played on that tour.
In the grand final of the South Burnett competition, played on March 31 in Kingaroy, Ferling took an amazing 2/9 off six overs, helping to steer Kingaroy Services to victory.
Ferling is currently a rookie list member of the Queensland Fire, the State’s number 1 women’s cricket team, and has been since she was 14.
Holly was presented with the award in Brisbane on Friday night.
