Former South Burnett jockey Jason Hoopert returned triumphantly to Kilcoy on Anzac Day … the first time he’s ridden at the track since an horrific race fall there in July 2006.
He’s been back racing for a bit over 12 months now but this is the first time he has returned to the site of the accident that almost claimed his life.
Hoopert started the meeting on a confident note, bringing top-weight Aljomaka Bay home fourth in Race 1, the Maiden Plate, for trainer Jason Livingstone from Maidenwell.
His only other ride on the day was Mount Freedom in Race 4, the 1200m Class B Handicap, which Hoopert led almost from the jump, eventually streaking away to win by three lengths.
