Australia’s favourite canine Red Dog will be one of stars of the 2012 Big Screen Film Festival in Nanango and Kingaroy.
The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia, in partnership with the South Burnett Regional Council, will again be giving South Burnett audiences the opportunity to enjoy an array of award-winning Aussie films at the Nanango Cultural Centre and the Satellite Cinema, Kingaroy, from May 18-20.
As well as Red Dog, this year’s titles include Killer Elite, The Cup and the family comedy Happy Feet Two.
Killer Elite stars Robert DeNiro, Jason Statham and Clive Owen. This American-Australian co-production was partly shot in Melbourne.
The Cup is the heart-warming true story of jockey Damien Oliver’s 2002 Melbourne Cup win on board Media Puzzle.
The special guest for the 2012 Big Screen film festival is still a mystery but previous guests have included Jacki Weaver, Sigrid Thornton and Oscar-winning film director Adam Elliot.
The festival will be launched on Friday, May 18, with a red carpet event at the Nanango Cultural Centre.
“Council is proud to support Big Screen for its sixth tour of the region,” SBRC CEO Ken McLoughlin said.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy Australian films on the big screen with your friends and family, and I urge everyone to take advantage of this quality event.
“I would also like to sincerely thank Heritage Nanango Community Branch for their substantial financial contribution to the Big Screen Film Festival’s opening night event.”
Tickets to the opening night are $20, which includes drinks and nibbles. All other tickets are $5. Half of the cost of every ticket sold will be returned to the community.
