Saturday’s Murgon Show was the tale of two extremes … during the day the equestrian competition was intense and the cattle yards hectic.<\/p>\n

There were lots of people competing, judging and assisting with the competitions, but not that many spectators.<\/p>\n

However, as soon as the sun set, the crowds came out for the rodeo, the rides and the fireworks.<\/p>\n

And there was lots of rodeo action to enjoy, with 102 riders competing for glory.<\/p>\n

International cricketer – and former Kingaroy resident – Holly Ferling officially opened the show on Saturday afternoon, after short speeches by Member for Callide Jeff Seeney and Deputy Prime Minister and Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss.<\/p>\n

Also speaking at the opening was Show Society president \/ secretary Aileen Williams who said the numbers in the showjumping, stockhorse challenge and other equestrian events had been “fantastic”.<\/p>\n

There were also good numbers in the cattle competition with entrants preparing for the big Beef Australia competition coming up soon in Rockhampton.<\/p>\n

The official opening also included a symbolic “blessing of the plough” by Fr Michael Carroll, from St Joseph’s Catholic Parish in Murgon.<\/p>\n

And then the winners of the Miss Junior Showgirl and Miss Showgirl competitions were announced.<\/p>\n

The 2015 Murgon Miss Junior Showgirl is Amber Spicer, from Glenrock, and Miss Showgirl is Taylor Deakin, from Murgon.<\/p>\n

Special guests were Show Society life members Gladys and Dudley Sippel. Mr Sippel, 85, is also Show Patron.<\/p>\n
