More than 100 people gathered in Kingaroy at the weekend for the ‘Red Ant Round-Up’ – a gathering of doctors and other medical professionals from across south-east Queensland.<\/p>\n

On Saturday night, they could be spotted “clowning around” in the Kingaroy Town Hall forecourt before enjoying dinner inside the hall.<\/p>\n

But the round-up, organised by Medicare Local, had a serious side – children’s health.<\/p>\n

The health professionals spent Saturday at the Maryknoll Centre, at St Mary’s Catholic College, listening to a dozen paediatric specialists covering topics as diverse as allergies to seizures.<\/p>\n

Then on Sunday morning, they backed up to hear three more specialists speak.<\/p>\n

Margie Hams, from Medicare Local, said the conference had been “very clinical” and had included a special stream of talks for nurses.<\/p>\n

“It’s been a fantastic turnout and we have had some fantastic speakers,” she said.<\/p>\n

The “clowns” who turned up unexpectedly at the pre-dinner drinks continued the child health theme … they often visit children’s wards in Brisbane to help lift the spirits of the young patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
