Concerns that almost $4 million in major regional infrastructure projects might be cancelled by the new ALP State Government have been allayed.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said today he has received assurances the Palaszczuk Government would adopt a “business as usual” approach to projects already approved by the previous Newman Government.<\/p>\n

They include a $450,000 State Government contribution towards the $1.1 million upgrade of the Murgon Swimming Pool under the “Get Playing Plus” grants program; $2 million for the Kingaroy-Kilkivan Rail Trail and a $1.5 million upgrade to the Kingaroy-Barkers Creek \/ Clark and Swendson Road intersection near Swickers, both approved under the “Royalties For Regions” grants program.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann spent three days last week in Brisbane, speaking to senior officials in the new administration.<\/p>\n

He said today he was “very pleased” the government was continuing its support for the projects.<\/p>\n

They would deliver important infrastructure improvements to the region Council was unable to fund from its own resources.<\/p>\n

Mayor Kratzmann said a lot of work had gone into preparing proposals for the three projects, and he was happy to hear the State Government intends to follow through on them.<\/p>\n

Public consultations on the Kingaroy-Kilkivan Rail Trail, which had originally been planned to commence in January but had to be deferred when the State Election was announced, will now be held later this year.<\/p>\n

But there has been no impact on the schedule for the Murgon Swimming Pool upgrade; the pool is still expected to reopen in time for the 2015-2016 swimming season.<\/p>\n
