March 4, 2015<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 57th annual Proston Show will open its gates to the public at 6:00am on Saturday, March 7, and organisers expect a bumper turnout, particularly for cattle.<\/p>\n

Stud cattle exhibitors will be using the Show to prepare for Beef Week in Rockhampton on May 4-9, hoping to capitalise on recent rainfall and good pastures in the area.<\/p>\n

Horses will also play a big role, with a good roll-up of entries for local novice classes, sponsored by the Duff family, and the always popular Stock Horse Challenge.<\/p>\n

There’ll also be woodchopping and chainsaw post-ripping, along with some tree-felling this year for a bit of added excitement.<\/p>\n

Poultry breeders will be out in force, too, all hoping to get a nod from judge Henry Surtees, who’ll be travelling down from Biloela to assess this year’s entries.<\/p>\n

Member for Callide Jeff Seeney will be in attendance to present a trophy he is donating to the Grand Champion Bird Of The Show.<\/p>\n

A Championship Dog Show, which will get underway at 8:30am, is also expected to draw a large number of entries.<\/p>\n

This year, children will be amused a roving clown, Viv’s Shearing Shed with its baby animals, Aerojump and – at 7:00pm – a big fireworks display.<\/p>\n

Also in the evening, adults can wind down with live entertainment from DJ Hams and young country musician Bridget O’Shannessy.<\/p>\n

The Show will be officially opened by Durong grazier Georgie Somerset about 1:30pm, and this will be followed by the Grand Parade at 2:00pm.<\/p>\n

Admission to this year’s Show is $10 for adults, $5 for high school students, $3 for primary students or $25 for a family pass. Pre-schoolers can get in for free, providing they’re accompanied by an adult.<\/p>\n
