Kingaroy Rotary Club’s Wayne Bushell … do you know a local good cause that could do with some extra equipment?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Kingaroy Rotary Club has $30,000 burning a hole in its pocket so it’s seeking ideas from the local community on how to spend it.<\/p>\n

Last April the service club joined together with Kingaroy Police to stage a special charity ball at Kingaroy Town Hall.<\/p>\n

The Police Ball aimed to mark the 150th anniversary of policing in Queensland, and also hoped to raise funds towards the establishment of better palliative care facilities in Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

However, the possibility of Kingaroy getting a new hospital – which would most likely include palliative care facilities – appears to have derailed the project that Rotary had planned to support.<\/p>\n

Hence the problem.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The community joined with us to raise these funds so they really belong to the community, not us,” Rotary spokesman Wayne Bushell said.<\/p>\n

“We don’t want to hold on to the money. It won’t do anybody any good if it just sits in a bank account.”<\/p>\n

Instead, Kingaroy Rotary would like to use the money to buy and then donate needed equipment to local not-for-profit community groups who could do with a hand.<\/p>\n

“There are a lot of really wonderful organisations in our area who get very little funding,” Wayne said.<\/p>\n

“Perhaps an organisation like Meals On Wheels could use a new oven. Or maybe the South Burnett Pantry needs more shelving for their store room.<\/p>\n

“We don’t know, but groups like these do know what they need, and we’d very much like to hear suggestions from the community about good causes that could do with a hand.”<\/p>\n

Importantly, the club wants to purchase items for groups, not make cash donations.<\/p>\n
