The South Burnett’s new “super-RTO” (regional tourism organisation) – formed from the merger of “Toowoomba Golden West and South Burnett Tourism” and “Southern Downs and Granite Belt Regional Tourism”- was officially launched today by Tourism Minister Jann Stuckey.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As previously reported, it will be known as “Southern Queensland Country”.<\/p>\n

“The new body is a great outcome for the region and will cover an area roughly twice the size of Tasmania, taking in some of the State’s most exciting food and wine areas,” Ms Stuckey said.<\/p>\n

“At the DestinationQ forum held in Cairns earlier this year we identified food and wine and drive tourism as key elements of the state\u2019s tourism industry.<\/p>\n

“Southern Queensland Country is perfectly positioned to make the most of these growing tourism markets.”<\/p>\n

Southern Queensland Country Tourism transitional board chair Associate Professor Jane Summers said with the support of local government, tourist organisations, industry, business and commerce, the new RTO would provide renewed momentum.<\/p>\n

“By bringing this group together we\u2019re able to pool local talent and resources to deliver a big, bright and unashamedly bold new brand for tourism in Southern Queensland Country,” Ms Summers said.<\/p>\n

“While it\u2019s a big step for our community, it\u2019s the right one.”<\/p>\n

Southern Queensland Country Tourism will start autonomous operation in October.<\/p>\n
