Months of fund-raising by the Murgon community – spearheaded by the Murgon Rotary Club – paid off on Wednesday morning with the arrival of a new bus at Southern Cross Care Castra.<\/p>\n

Murgon Rotary kicked in $15,000 last April to launch a campaign to raise $70,000 for the project, and also set in motion a number of fundraising initiatives.<\/p>\n

Other community groups were quick to hop on board.<\/p>\n

Supporters included the Murgon RSL Sub-Branch, Murgon RSL Club, Goomeri Lions, Murgon QCWA, the Australian Pensioners and Superannuants League, the EarlyAct Club at Murgon State School, Murgon State High School students, Murgon Quota Club plus private donations.<\/p>\n

Funds were also raised by auctioning off unneeded equipment from Castra when the facility was upgraded.<\/p>\n

The latest donations came in just on Wednesday morning – $250 from the Order of the Eastern Star Wondai, $250 from the Duke of Strathearn Lodge Wondai and $500 from “Hand Heart Pocket” (the charity of Freemasons Queensland) – less than an hour before the new bus rolled into the driveway at Castra.<\/p>\n

The arrival brought great excitement to the retirement village, with staff and residents both eager to explore their new vehicle.<\/p>\n

The 10-seater bus, which comes with a wheelchair lift, will be used to transport residents to activities outside the retirement facility.<\/p>\n
