I am sure that there won’t be too much activity on the South Burnett’s bowling greens this weekend, except for the odd bit of sweeping and mopping up.<\/p>\n

As I write this, the cyclone watch currently extends in a line through Gayndah to Murgon, then south and beyond.<\/p>\n

We can only hope that all our bowls clubs gain nothing from Cyclone Marcia but beneficial rain.<\/p>\n

Anyway, Kingaroy leads this week’s bulletin.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy News<\/strong><\/h3>\n

“The little rings are on the inside and the big rings are on the outside.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

“I knew that!” you might say.<\/p>\n

“Then how come you occasionally bowl one down with the wrong bias?”<\/p>\n

In some clubs bowling with the wrong bias might be cause for a shout for bar, but in Kingaroy it will cost you one dollar.<\/p>\n

The money goes into the “once-upon-a-time swear box”.<\/p>\n

And it is all in a good cause.<\/p>\n

The thought of rolling a wrong biased bowl during a game is something most bowlers don’t want to think about, as it tends to lead to good-natured ridicule from team mates and opponents alike.<\/p>\n

So Kingaroy Bowls club members devised a system of “fines” for those bowlers who are unfortunate to roll a “wrong bias”.<\/p>\n

The system started in 2014 and each wrong bias now costs $1.<\/p>\n

On February 9, the wrong bias tin was emptied and its $200 contents were donated to the RACQ Care Flight Helicopter Rescue Service.<\/p>\n

The helicopter is regularly seen from the bowls club as it makes its way to and from the Kingaroy Hospital and a number of members have had cause to use this essential service.<\/p>\n

In other Kingaroy news, last Sunday Kingaroy Bowls Club’s Patron Fred Keding was the guest of honour at the annual Patrons Day. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Ninety year old Fred is a regular player and often plays two days a week.<\/p>\n

Thirty-eight players turned out to help him celebrate his day.<\/p>\n

The format was Fours and Triples, with six points for a win and one point for each end won.<\/p>\n
