And although crystallised, it was still edible.<\/p>\n<p>Honey was used around the world as a sweetener well before the introduction of sugar.<\/p>\n<p>The ancient Greeks used it in many bakery products and considered it &#8220;The Food of the Gods&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Many of these ancient recipes are still used today, particularly throughout Europe.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Honey could be described as a thick, sweet liquid made by bees from the nectar of flowers. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The nectar passes through the bee\u2019s digestive system and is excreted as the honey we all know.<\/p>\n<p>Honey takes on distinctive flavours and colours, depending on the type of flowers from which the bees extract the nectar.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the most common honey producing flowers are from eucalyptus, thyme, rosemary, heather, orange blossom and acacia, to mention a few.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some honey tips:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If your jar of honey begins to crystallise, stand it in a bowl of hot water until it dissolves and turns back to liquid\n<li>When accurately measuring honey with a spoon, dip the spoon in hot water first and it won\u2019t stick as much\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Honey and Peanut Biscuits<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/honey-with-honeycomb-and-bees4.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/honey-with-honeycomb-and-bees4.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"honey-with-honeycomb-and-bees4\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-96215\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/honey-with-honeycomb-and-bees4.png 300w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/honey-with-honeycomb-and-bees4-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/honey-with-honeycomb-and-bees4-50x50.png 50w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Half cup of margarine\n<li>Half cup of raw caster sugar\n<li>3 tablespoons honey\n<li>1 cup flour\n<li>Half cup of bran flakes\n<li>Half cup choppped, unsalted peanuts\n<li>1 teaspoon cinnamon\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Preheat an oven to 135<sup>o<\/sup>C and line a baking tray\n<li>In a mixing machine, combine the margarine, caster sugar and honey\n<li>When blended, mix in the flour, bran flakes, peanuts and cinnamon\n<li>Shape mixture into balls and then press flat onto the baking tray\n<li>Bake 20 minutes\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Makes 12.<\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/ford-on-food\/\">Read more Ford On Food columns<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Honey is one of the oldest ingredients used in cookery.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":96215,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[595],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
