The Kingaroy Soaring Club’s new $180,000 hangar at Kingaroy Airport has been officially opened at a ceremony recognising long-term club member Ian “Aspro” Aspland.<\/p>\n

Club president Greg Schmidt said the hangar had been erected on land beside the former “Boomerang” factory which the club had leased from the South Burnett Regional Council.<\/p>\n

The hangar was built to provide a facility for club members to store their gliders.<\/p>\n

It will house about a dozen gliders, and all spots have been booked already, Mr Schmidt said.<\/p>\n

The official ceremony was followed by a dinner at the clubhouse where entertainment was provided by James Blundell.<\/p>\n

The club announced last year that the hangar would be named after Ian Aspland.<\/p>\n

Ian now lives at Caloundra but was a Kingaroy resident for many years.<\/p>\n

He has been a member of the club since 1956, and has broken many gliding records, won many championships and has done a tremendous amount of work for the club over the years.<\/p>\n
