A steering committee aiming to establish a Community Foundation to assist the South Burnett is planning to launch the initiative with a celebrity ball in November.<\/p>\n

Although planning for the formal event is in the early stages, a tentative date has been set: November 3 at Kingaroy Airport.<\/p>\n

The concept of forming a South Burnett Community Foundation came from Wooroolin resident Karen Seiler and has been further developed by local members of the Queensland Rural, Regional and Remote Women’s Network, including Georgie Somerset and Carolyn Stone.<\/p>\n

A Community Foundation exists to accept donations, bequests and do fund-raising for worthwhile community projects.<\/p>\n

The difference from current fund-raising schemes – including service clubs – is that the money donated “works forever”. The donations are permanent endowments which will benefit the community in perpetuity. All projects are funded from investments, leaving the original donations untouched.<\/p>\n

The Red Earth Community Foundation<\/strong>, as the project has been named, has the support of individual South Burnett Regional councillors and representatives from Centacare South Burnett, South Burnett CTC, Agforce, DEEDI, BIEDO, Stanwell and Centrelink.<\/p>\n

Competing candidates at the recent State election – Carl Rackemann and Deb Frecklington – are also members of the steering committee.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
