Nanango’s Henry Street bus stop will shift to a new spot from tomorrow (February 5).<\/p>\n

South Burnett Regional Council, after receiving approval from Translink, is moving the bus stop to just north of the South Burnett Energy Centre, near the Scott Car Park.<\/p>\n

A bus information sign and a passenger seat will also be moved to the new location.<\/p>\n

The move will enable Council to provide several new angled parking spaces outside the strip of shops on the corner of Henry and Drayton streets.<\/p>\n

Lights strung along Nanango’s new pear trees in Henry Street for Christmas will become a permanent fixture, Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said yesterday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The solar-powered lights were put on the pear trees late last year to create a welcoming night-time display for visitors entering the town via the D’Aguilar or Burnett highways.<\/p>\n

The Mayor said community reaction to the lights had been so positive Council intended to leave them in place permanently, though some would be adjusted in the near future.<\/p>\n

“We worked out that it’s cheaper to leave them in position than it is to get Council workers to take them down every New Year and then string them up again every November,” the Mayor said.<\/p>\n

“Leaving them where they are creates a very nice night-time entrance for Nanango and is a win-win for the entire community.”<\/p>\n

Council also announced today that it plans to begin an upgrade in Main Street, Hivesville, on Monday, February 16.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe project will include the reconstruction of kerb and channelling, installation of subsoil drainage and pavement repairs on the north-eastern side of Main Street from the public toilet to the CWA Hall,” portfolio holder Cr Damien Tessmann said.<\/p>\n

“Council expects the work will take approximately three weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n

During construction, roadwork signs will be in place and work will be carried out with minimal disruption to traffic.<\/p>\n

There will be some access restrictions for local properties however residents with concerns during construction have been asked to contact the on-site supervisor.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
