Rugby league fans are in for a big year in the South Burnett with\u00a0 a strong local competition for both juniors and seniors, and a good chance there’ll be another Intrust Super Cup match coming our way.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Rugby League president Greg Pomfret told southburnett.com.au<\/strong> today that Nanango, Kingaroy, Wondai, Murgon, Cherbourg and Central Burnett would be fielding junior teams in all grades up to Under 14s.<\/p>\n

In U16s, there would be teams from Nanango, Kingaroy, Murgon, Cherbourg and Central Burnett, with Wondai undecided at present.<\/p>\n

There would be four teams in the U18s competition: Nanango, Kingaroy, Murgon and Cherbourg, with players from the Central Burnett helping Murgon at the start of the season.<\/p>\n

However, there’ll be no repeat of last year’s split season in the A Grade, when South Burnett and Central Burnett teams played in a joint competition during the mid-season.<\/p>\n

Instead, there will be a “gala day” played mid-year at Murgon Sportsground where South Burnett and Central Burnett teams will play each other depending on their position on the ladder at the time, ie Team 1 v Team 1, Team 2 v Team 2 etc.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Greg said there would be an “unbelievable” number of opportunities for rep football for juniors, with all teams in the Central United division knocking on the door looking for opportunities for games.<\/p>\n

In A Grade, a three-round pre-season competition will kick off in early March with the full competition getting underway in May.<\/p>\n

47th Battalion matches will be played at Roma before the main competition begins, with trials scheduled in Nanango against Northern Districts and Central Burnett.<\/p>\n

There would also be an U20s side in the 47th Battalion competition, with games to be played at Yeppoon.<\/p>\n

Greg said it was “almost guaranteed” that there would be an Intrust Super Cup match held in the region following the success of last year’s game in Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

While it looks like a good year for league, rugby union fans won’t be so happy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the South Burnett Thrashers were unable to sign on enough potential players before the Darling Downs deadline so won’t be taking part in the 2015 competition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
