Heavy rain, mud, the loss of a night of racing and then a blackout on Sunday night couldn’t stop the massive Kings Royal speedway meeting being a huge success in Kingaroy over the Australia Day long weekend.<\/p>\n

Racing had been scheduled to start on Friday night and after heavy rain overnight, officials were hoping the track would dry out in time to allow heats to begin.<\/p>\n

But just before it was due to roar into action, more rain at the track put paid to any racing on Friday.<\/p>\n

Not to be deterred, the South Burnett Speedway Club rescheduled the Friday night program to Saturday with the racing starting earlier.<\/p>\n

The crowd that packed into the track enjoyed two nights of racing crammed into one, with the action continuing to almost midnight with the only break being for a fireworks display earlier in the evening.<\/p>\n

Sunday night’s racing was also popular with plenty of action and spectacular crashes in the Kings Royal heats and final.<\/p>\n

The winner of the Kings Royal, who walked away with a cheque for $10,000, was Brisbane-based driver Gavin Fletcher who also won $250 for taking out the Kings Royal shootout.<\/p>\n

There was also plenty of action in the 4 Cylinders, Juniors and Street Stocks.<\/p>\n

Sunshine Coast driver Gordon Midolo rolled his Escort in the 4 Cylinder Mini Feature on Saturday night.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Emergency crews quickly rushed to help Midolo, but fortunately he wasn’t injured – just stuck in the mud!<\/p>\n
