If a child gets a head start in learning before school it usually sets them up for a terrific life … that’s why the staff at the Gundoo Day Care in Cherbourg have been brainstorming ideas on how to make their services even better.<\/p>\n

Everyone from cooks to gardeners, teachers and directors gathered around earlier this month to put their ideas down on paper.<\/p>\n

People were encouraged to speak about their vision for the centre and how they could make that become a reality over the next five years.<\/p>\n

Suggestions that came forward included how to:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  • Increase enrolments;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      \n
    • Have more involvement from parents and the community;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
        \n
      • Improve nutrition;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
          \n
        • Provide better teaching in reading, writing and language;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
            \n
          • Increase early childhood development activities; and<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
              \n
            • Ensure national standards were maintained and exceeded.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              \u201cWe were giving our staff ownership of the centre\u2019s vision and responsibility to make that become a reality,\u201d Gundoo director Jacqui Tapau said.<\/p>\n
