After the loss of several referees, Football South Burnett is looking for new candidates to take up the challenge to referee local soccer.<\/p>\n

A course for aspiring referees – aged 14 and over – will be held in Kingaroy in February.<\/p>\n

“Many local referees also play the game which means we often finds ourselves short of referees for matches,” referees coach Martin Stern said.<\/p>\n

“We particularly welcome ex-players who would like to stay in touch with the game, but while experience is an advantage it is not a requirement.”<\/p>\n

The course consists of an online quiz and a day\u2019s theory. <\/p>\n

A minimum of 10 candidates are required to run the course locally, however other courses will be run in Toowoomba if there are lower numbers.<\/p>\n

After completing the course, attendees can register as a Level 4 referee, but there is no obligation.<\/p>\n

Once registered, the new referees will be allocated to junior fixtures and, if confident enough, to some senior lines.<\/p>\n

During the season they will be assessed and undertake regular training.<\/p>\n

“Refereeing is not for everyone, but it is a great way to develop your confidence and leadership skills,” Martin said.<\/p>\n

“You will have to make quick decisions which are not always popular.<\/p>\n

“As a referee you will get paid for all games you officiate and will be registered as a referee in South West Queensland Zone, which means you will be able to referee to your level in the South Burnett, Dalby, Chinchilla, Warwick and Stanthorpe and at all Zone carnivals.<\/p>\n

“If you are interested, please make contact me as soon as possible so we have an idea of numbers.”<\/p>\n

The Level 4 (entry level) Referees Course will be held on Saturday, February 14, from 8:30am\u20133:30pm at the Kingaroy Senior Soccer Club House. Cost is free.<\/p>\n
