Yarraman Weir Park near the former site of Yarraman’s railway station is one of the region’s lesser-known parks, but a Community Plan being drawn up by the Yarraman Progress Association hopes to change that<\/figcaption><\/figure>\nJanuary 19, 2015<\/strong><\/p>\nThe Yarraman Progress Association will be holding a community meeting next month as part of the process of developing Stage 1 of the Yarraman Town Plan.<\/p>\n
The meeting will be held at the Yarraman Memorial Hall in Browne Street from 7:00pm on Tuesday, February 3.<\/p>\n
A Steering Committee has been formed within the Yarraman Progress Association to collect ideas from the community and a survey has been distributed to collect the thoughts of residents to develop a community vision for the long-term future of Yarraman.<\/p>\n
“The sole aim of this exercise is to connect the Yarraman community, working together focussing on the positives of our town, building on these aspects to strengthen our town and move us forward in conjunction with the Toowoomba Regional Council and other regional initiatives,” spokesman Terry Reid said.<\/p>\n
“A series of town meetings will be held in early February.<\/p>\n
“The first a these meetings (February 3) will present all of the ideas that have been collected from the surveys to the community for discussion and they will be either accepted or rejected by the majority.<\/p>\n
“At the second meeting (February 17) those ideas accepted will be presented as a Community Plan for final approval by the majority of the community. This plan will then be presented to the Toowoomba Regional Council.<\/p>\n
“The Toowoomba Regional Council has developed a Community Vision which is essentially a long term future for the Toowoomba Region of which we are a part.<\/p>\n
“The core values of the Council\u2019s Community Plan is to provide the best possible balance of services to all areas and sectors of the community.<\/p>\n
“We in Yarraman need to be a part of this vision but to do so we need to provide a framework to guide Toowoomba Regional Council with an outline of those aspects that relate to the specific needs of our community.
