And, try to take it easy on the booze<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep it simple; don&#8217;t be trapped in the kitchen all day while everyone else is enjoying themselves<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Consider using disposable plates, because nobody appreciates floor-to-ceiling dirty dishes on Christmas Day<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>To avoid food poisoning, keep hot food above 60<sup>o<\/sup>C and cold food below 5<sup>o<\/sup>C. Do you really want a family reunion in hospital on Boxing Day?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Try not to prepare too much food. There\u2019s often a ridiculous amount of leftover ham and salads etc in the week following Christmas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Christmas Leftovers<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The days following Christmas are very predictable.<\/p>\n<p>Exchanging or returning gifts (broken or unwanted), coping with a hangover, post-Christmas bargain-hunting and lots of leftovers in the fridge.<\/p>\n<p>Of all the leftovers, baked ham would be the most common.<\/p>\n<p>Most people don&#8217;t want to waste big chunks of meat &#8211; but how do you use leftover ham?<\/p>\n<p>A little imagination! But don&#8217;t make sandwiches, because that\u2019s boring.<\/p>\n<p>A cheesy ham omelet for breakfast would be better.<\/p>\n<p>Or a filo pastry parcel filled with garlic rice and chopped ham.<\/p>\n<p>Or my own favourite recipe for leftover ham, which is&#8230;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Easy Peasy Pasta Carbonara<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/plum-pudding-600x600.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-92685\" title=\"plum-pudding-600x600\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/plum-pudding-600x600.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/plum-pudding-600x600.png 300w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/plum-pudding-600x600-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/plum-pudding-600x600-50x50.png 50w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>500g pasta<\/li>\n<li>100g chopped ham<\/li>\n<li>2 egg yolks<\/li>\n<li>2 tbsp cream<\/li>\n<li>2 garlic cloves, minced<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 cup parmesan cheese. grated<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Method:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Cook the ham in a fry pan until crisp; remove from pan and drain on paper towels; set the ham aside<\/li>\n<li>Cook the pasta as directed on package<\/li>\n<li>Meanwhile, combine the egg yolks, cream, and garlic in a medium bowl and beat until well blended<\/li>\n<li>When the pasta is cooked, drain and immediately return to the pot<\/li>\n<li>Stir in the egg mixture and toss thoroughly until combined<\/li>\n<li>Add the ham and cheese and toss again to coat; season if required<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Serves 4 &#8211; <em><strong>Merry Christmas!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/ford-on-food\/\">Read more Ford On Food columns<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> Jason&#8217;s column will be taking a holiday break from this week until January 16, 2015.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The festive decorations adorning our retail stores are a stark reminder that Christmas Day is just around the corner.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":9,"featured_media":92685,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[595],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Christmas Rules ...
