At 8:00am last Saturday it looked a completely hopeless situation, but the rain abated and the greenkeepers staff and helpers soon had the green ready for a late start.<\/p>\n<p>And as things turned out, the three scheduled rounds were played that day.<\/p>\n<p>The greenkeeper was back out mowing and rolling at 4:00am on Sunday. and compliments were soon flowing thick and fast from the bowlers.<\/p>\n<p>Players for the Carnival came from as far away as Tenterfield, Toowoomba, Kallangur and Bribie Island.<\/p>\n<p>The Calcutta was exciting and some very competitive bidding<\/p>\n<p>Ray Chicken\u2019s composite Darling Downs team attracted the highest bidder.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_92109\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-92109\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/20141213-bowls1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-92109\" title=\"20141213 Rosalie Fours Carnival\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/20141213-bowls1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/20141213-bowls1.jpg 620w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/20141213-bowls1-300x186.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-92109\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ray Chicken about to send down his final bowl in the Round Five match; his Darling Downs composite team of Tony Collins, Peter Maher, Trevor Gillies and Ray waltzed away with the round to take out top prize in the Rosalie Fours Carnival, undefeated with five wins and 115 points<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The multi-draw raffle was well supported by South Burnett business houses with a result that 46 very attractive prizes were in the draw.<\/p>\n<p>There were five rounds of fours, with prizes for all five rounds for the overall winners, runner ups and third placegetters.<\/p>\n<p>Conditions of the competition were that a team could only win one prize.<\/p>\n<p>Two teams went through the competition undefeated.<\/p>\n<p>Ray Chicken\u2019s team from Combined Darling Downs scored five wins and 115 points, while Max Postle\u2019s team from Lowood scored five wins and 99 points.<\/p>\n<p>An astute Tenterfield player collected the substantial Calcutta bonus.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rosalie Fours results:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Winners: Tony Collins, Ray Chicken, Peter Maher and Trevor Gillies &#8211; Des Richards, Paul Marychurch and John Coppard 17-12<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Nanango News<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In Tuesday Men&#8217;s Social conditions of play were 1 for an end and 4 for win, but owing to a heavy storm only one game was completed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Results:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lew Saunders and Allan Carr &#8211; 13 pts +25<\/li>\n<li>Cec Bracken and Jim Fowler &#8211; 13 pts +19<\/li>\n<li>Greg Pogson and Ben Pratap &#8211; 10 pts<\/li>\n<li>Bob Hammond and Trevor George &#8211; 6pts<\/li>\n<li>Joe Aglizzio and John McConnell &#8211; 3pts<\/li>\n<li>Bob Hall and Henry Bliesner &#8211; 3pts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On Wednesday in the Ladies Social, one scores worth mentioning was Muriel Benfield, June McKee, Kerry Little and Evelyn Jensen who defeated Noel Little, Di McNeilage, Sylvia Fanning and Sue Tucker 15-8<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Murgon News<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As is the case with many bowls clubs at this time of year, the Murgon Bowls Club will be closing their greens from Christmas Eve through to New Years Day for maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>But if you&#8217;re looking for a fun way to welcome in the New Year, get along to the club at 5:30pm on Friday, January 2nd to try the club&#8217;s new &#8220;Last Man Standing&#8221; competition.<\/p>\n<p>Murgon Bowls Club Secretary Richard Sloper has come up with this fun concept for the summer months.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s how it works:<\/p>\n<p>Teams of four players take to the green with two bowls each, and try to get their two bowls as close to the kitty as possible .<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the round, the bowl furthest from the kitty is removed from play.<\/p>\n<p>And this keeps up until there&#8217;s only one bowler left (who is, as the say, &#8220;The Last Man Standing&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>The game is open to bowlers and non-bowlers alike, and you can play in soft-soled shoes or barefoot.
